The 10th King’s Liverpools (Liverpool Scottish)

It was here in 1915 that the Liverpool Scottish distinguished themselves. At dawn on the 16th June, with the Menin Road on their right and Railway Wood on their left the battalion, in concert with the 1st Lincolns, commenced an attack on the strongly held German positions which lay just in front of the line of trees in the photograph. Their objective was Bellewaarde farm and the Lake beyond. The site of the farm can just be seen beyond the wood. The picture was taken from what was then No Man's Land. By the end of the day the objectives were in British hands and an adjacent salient near the Menin road had been flattened out.
