HAPPY VALLEY
Mametz Wood is on the left of the photograph. Robert Graves was here with the 2nd Bn. Royal Welch Fusiliers in July 1916. The people walking up the valley are going in the direction of Bazentin and High Wood the route the 20th Deccan Horse took through this valley on 14th July 1916. Graves went into Mametz Wood to "bury friends" and later to obtain a German Army greatcoat.
