| 24th November 1915 | Joins 1st Bn. Royal Welch Fusiliers at Festubert. |
| Robert Graves having been transferred from 2nd Bn. joins 1st Bn and meets Sassoon for the first time. | |
| SASSOON ON THE SOMME | |
| 6th December 1915 | Battalion leaves for the Somme. (Bois Francais). |
| 23rd April 1916 | Attends 4th Army School at Flixecourt. |
| 25th May 1916 | Raid on Kiel Trench. Bois Francais. Cpl O'Brien DOW. |
| Sassoon awarded M.C. for his part in the raid. | |
| 1st July 1916 | Sits at Crawley Ridge and watches attack on Fricourt by 10th West Yorks and 7th Green Howards. |
| 4th July 1916 | Leaves Bottom Wood for Quadrangle Trench. |
| Meets "Fernby" at end of Quadrangle Trench. | |
| Proceeds down Wood Trench towards Mametz Wood throwing hand-grenades at German soldiers fleeing into the wood. | |
| 14th July 1916 | Meets Robert Graves in 2nd Bn. R.Welch Fusiliers. |
| 23rd July 1916 | Very ill with trench fever. |
| 2nd August 1916 | In England recovering. |
| 4th April 1917 | With
2nd Bn. Royal Welch Fusliers at Corbie on the Somme. Leaves for Arras. |
| SASSOON IN THE BATTLE OF ARRAS | |
| 12th April 1917 | 2nd Bn. Royal Welch Fusliers arrive 3km South West of Wancourt. |
| 16th April 1917 | In Tunnel Trench. Receives bullet in shoulder. Sent to England. |
| 15th June 1917 | Makes statement re War being prolonged. |
| July 1917 | With Graves's intervention goes to Craiglockhart Hospital. |
| SASSOON IN PALESTINE | |
| 11th December 1917 | At Regimental Depot, Litherland. |
| 7th January 1918 | New Barracks, Limerick. |
| 4th March 1918 | Posted 25th Bn. Royal Welch Fusliers in Palestine. |
| 7th April 1918 | Leaves Palestine for France. |
| SASSOON RETURNS TO FRANCE | |
| 13th July 1918 | In line at St.Floris when he goes out on patrol and is shot when Sgt.Griffiths mistook him for a German. |
