Reveille at the Menin Gate

31st October 2002

Ever since 1928, (except for a period during the Second World War), at eight o’clock every night, members of the local Fire Brigade have sounded the Last Post at the Menin Gate Memorial in Ypres (Ieper). The number of buglers on duty varies from two, or perhaps, as in this case seven. They honour the memory of those soldiers from Britain and the then British Empire who died in the Ypres Salient and have no known grave.

On special occasions, for example at official ceremonies such as took place on 31st October 2002 depicted above and after the Last Post, the buglers close the ceremony by sounding Reveille.
