The scene of fierce fighting in November 1914, the German bunker complex seen here in Shrewsbury Forest probably dates from 1916. Even after this length of time, the front line trench has not yet disappeared. Visitors walking in the forest are reminded by notices prominently displayed, that there is an ever-present danger of unexploded ordnance in the undergrowth and in the roots of fallen trees; an example can be seen in this photograph.
